Tom York

Tom York has worked in communications for more than 16 years, agency side and in-house, running multidisciplinary campaigns for commercial and public sector organisations such as the UK government’s National Apprenticeship Service, WorldSkills UK and WorldSkills Europe, Microsoft, Royal Mail Group, Engineering UK, Project Syndicate, and the community business charitable trust, Power to Change.

Tom began his career as a journalist at regional newspaper group Newsquest, where he worked on titles including the Surrey Comet, Wimbledon News, and the Guardian Series. He currently writes for therooftop.news – the online home of positive news worth shouting about.

At the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, Tom launched Rooftop TV, a weekly short film series to shine a spotlight on the inspiring people behind the some of the best social impact campaigns that are transforming people’s lives.

Tom’s specialties are in marketing and communications strategy and direction, campaign creation, development and delivery, copywriting, crisis communication management, social media, media relations, and presenting.

He is a passionate campaigner for LGBTQ+ rights and issues around mental health.

Outside of work, Tom enjoys travelling, baking, and long walks in the Italian countryside with his rescue dog, Ziggy.
