Campaign Collective members will be quizzing students at the University of Birmingham in a campaign pitching event.

Students on the Liberal Arts and Natural Sciences degree programme are delivering campaigns for social change as part of their first-year studies, with topics ranging from period poverty to childhood obesity.

They will be pitching their campaigns to a panel including Campaign Collective members Delia Antoine BurdettSarah ColombiniSimon FrancisIan Morton and Nicola Putnam.

The pitch will form part of the assessment for the core first-year module ‘From Research to Policy II’.

Simon Francis, one of the Founder Members of Campaign Collective, commented:

Part of our social purpose is to help inspire and support the next generation of campaigners and we hope that our involvement in the pitching process will help students refine and improve their campaign ideas.

 

The issues students at the University of Birmingham are looking to tackle are ones which our Members have direct experience of working on. I’m sure we will learn as much from the fresh perspectives the students bring to the issues as they will from our campaigning experience.

James Everest, a Teaching Fellow at the University of Birmingham, added:

Liberal Arts and Natural Sciences allows students to design their own flexible and individual programmes with an interdisciplinary emphasis, drawing on modules from across what the University of Birmingham has to offer.

 

Students learn interdisciplinarity through modules where they collaborate to address complex real-world problems and work in teams bringing together different disciplinary perspectives.

 

I know that the students are relishing the opportunity to test their ideas on a panel which includes policy and campaigning experts.
