Communications training for young people launched

Young people aged 16-24 are set to benefit from the launch of a new not-for-profit training organisation this summer.

Get You Heard has been founded by former Government strategic communications advisor and professional trainer Charlotte McLeod to give 16-24 year olds the skills and confidence to communicate and campaign.

The organisation will run its first training event on Saturday 11 August in central London, offering free face-to-face communications training to young people, with 50 tickets up for grabs.

The full day event will focus on the interpersonal skills young people need to make a difference, from making a good first impression to building rapport. It will include a formal training element as well as one-to-one coaching with qualified coaches and the opportunity for young people to practise their new skills with senior professionals from a range of sectors, including the pharmaceutical industry, retail and the military.

Founder Charlotte Mcleod, who regularly trains people in communications and personal impact ranging from private sector employees starting their career to public sector leaders like the Foreign & Commonwealth Office ambassadors, said:

Young people spend so much time online that they don’t always get the chance to hone their face-to-face skills in the way that older generations did. Increasingly, many feel isolated, lonely and unable to find their voice or be heard when they do speak – so they don’t. This disconnection can damage their health, employability and belief in what they can achieve.

Get You Heard helps young people to find their own voice so that they can communicate powerfully with anybody and contribute meaningfully to the creation of their own lives and communities.

The training will be jointly run by McLeod and Sam Waterfall, an author, public speaker and founder of coaching organisation Obvious Candidate. Human resources expert, Ngozi Nwabineli heads up a team of coaches providing individual tailored support on the day.

The event will take place at WAC Arts in North West London. The are 50 places available, with lunch and refreshments will be provided free of charge.

Support for the event has been provided by Campaign Collective, the social enterprise that ensures organisations and campaigners creating a better society can benefit from affordable professional communications advice and support.

Campaign Collective Founder Member Heather Rogers commented:

Helping young people gain communications skills is vital in ensuring that they can have their say and make their voice heard in any situation. We’re supporting Get You Heard as part of our commitment to invest our profits in inspiring the next generation of campaigners.
